Sofit is a project about empowering people with disabilities in Belarus to participate more fully in the society by using creative arts, aiming for a sustainable inclusive society.
The name of the project comes from the Russian word “sofit” which means spotlight. The goal with the project is to evoke positive changes in public opinion of the potential of people with disability to make them “visible”. A specific objective is to enhance capacity building in artistic work with mixed groups.
The project proposes knowledge dissemination and development of methods through practical seminars, workshops and residential course in dance, music and theatre under guidance of Swedish specialists. Another focus area is dialogue with media about norms, stereotypes and role models. An information campaign will promote arts as a tool for inclusion and equality.
Together with M. Tank University a sustainable knowledge platform will be developed. The goal is to set up a creative lab to implement methods for artistic and inclusive work in educational process, in collaboration with day-care centres and institutions. “Sofit” includes vocational training for professionals, spreading positive experience both nationally and internationally.
