During the past 13 years, Lena was working with the development and the management of the Nationellt kunskapscenter för dövblindfrågor – the Swedish National Resource Centre for Deaf-blindness, a government-funded organization commissioned by the Swedish National Board of Health and Welfare.
I was previously employed by Region Skåne, where I, for many years, worked with improving organizations for the benefit of people with hearing impairment, deafness and deaf-blindness. By profession, I am a Special Needs Educator, with a focus on hearing impairment and deafness.
In cooperation with different associations, researchers, and professional groups, I have managed the development and establishment of the deaf- and deaf-blind centres of Region Skåne.
What is your driving force as a board member?
Culture and performing arts must become more accessible for all, regardless of disabilities. And there is a lot more to do. All people should have the same right to participate in different cultural contexts, and to use their creative abilities and desire.
Diversity is an asset, and for that I think ShareMusic & Performing Arts is a fantastically exciting role model in society. I hope to contribute with my extended experience in working with people of different disabilities.
Living with both hearing and vision impairment is a challenge. For the person concerned and for those around them. My work at the Nationellt kunskapscenter för dövblindfrågor has in most ways been focused on gathering, developing, and spreading usable knowledge on deaf-blindness. I am very committed to issues concerning participation and accessibility.
How do you see ShareMusic's role as a knowledge centre in five years' time?
With my experience in developing and working for a similar knowledge centre, I see many opportunities. With the creativity, diversity and strive for innovation that characterises ShareMusic, I see a sought after, permanent knowledge centre for inclusive performing arts. A unique organization which many will be gathering knowledge and inspiration from.
