We want to achieve a stage of equal opportunities and a greater artistic breadth, where people with different backgrounds, experience and abilities are also authors. That's why in 2018 we launched a mentoring programme to support people with disabilities who want to create their own work. In the first phase of the programme, mentees — the artists — and mentors were matched in creative constellations. The project then transitioned into artist residencies. Professional playwrights, directors, choreographers, lighting designers and musicians were hired to bring the artistic ideas of the authors to life. The artists presented their work and shared the creative process during an invited event at Unga Klara in Stockholm 2021.
Here you can see the videos created during the residency (Vimeo).
In the first phase of the mentoring programme, 8 mentees worked with 8 mentors. In the second phase, the residency, 7 mentees worked with a total of 20 practitioners in artistic teams.
The experience of the mentoring programme has shown that this is a model that we want to keep at the core of ShareMusic. We intend to continue developing the form, preferably in collaboration with various cultural operators in Sweden. The development of our mentoring programme 2018-2021 was made possible through Initium, a project supported by the Swedish Heritage Fund. Initium ended in autumn 2021.
