Is it possible to play music together when
being at different locations?
In the seminar Live music with the right feeling,
at the International Science Festival 2023 in Gothenburg,
we will talk about musical co-creation at a distance.
A violin, a piano, and a music-making app – in three different locations?
With a little help from technology, it is possible to play music together with that special live feeling even at a distance. We will show you how it is done today, and you will also get a researcher’s perspective on what the future looks like.
The technology does not only offer an alternative to musical co-creation in a studio or a concert hall. As crucial and influencing as the geographical locations are the interpersonal aspects. Through the use of haptics, shared emotions can also be a part of the equation.
With the help from technology, we can break isolation, include more musicians on the musician's own terms, and create important meetings.
At the seminar, we will also show live how musical co-creation at a distance can be performed.
The event will be in English.

The word haptics is derived from the Greek word haptomai, which means to touch.
Using haptics, something experienced by any other of our senses can be imitated and digitally transferred to the sense of touch.
Using the technology of haptics, it is, for instance, possible for a deaf person to experience music by feeling it, instead of hearing the music.
